Bisset Adams designed and implemented the £1.6 million fitout of Ordnance Survey’s new landmark building in Adanac Park outside Southampton, which was occupied early in 2011. The new workspace is designed to offer a radically different way of working, fostering interaction and flexibility with an open and flexible floorplan. The design concept is based around the popular Landranger OS map, with ‘rural’ and ‘urban’ areas corresponding to breakout/interactive space and more concentrated team-working. The design also uses the Landranger’s subtle and highly distinctive colour palette.
Navigation is a key element in the design, and we designed a distinctive signage motif based on the angle between true and magnetic north, a concept which is also picked up in the ground plan and landscaping of the whole site.
